when conversations no longer reach
Perhaps you still care deeply, but no longer know how to reach one another.
You may be having the same argument in different forms. One of you may pursue a conversation while the other withdraws. Trust may have been shaken, affection may feel distant, or everyday pressures may have left very little room for the relationship itself.
Couples counselling offers somewhere to slow the pattern down. Not to decide who is right, but to understand what happens between you and what you may each be trying to protect, express or ask for underneath it all.
A space to think freely and to leave with greater clarity.
Both of you need to feel heard
I work with you as a couple, holding the relationship between you rather than taking either person's side.
There may be moments when one perspective needs more room, but the aim is balance; helping each of you speak more honestly, listen with less defensiveness and become curious about the cycle you have created together.
You do not have to agree about everything. What matters is creating enough safety for both experiences to be present without blame, humiliation or pressure.
There is no single reason
What might bring you here
The same conflict, again
Conversations escalate, go in circles or end in silence, leaving you both feeling misunderstood.
Distance or lost connection
You function together, but warmth, intimacy or a sense of partnership has quietly faded.
A difficult turning point
Betrayal, family change, grief, illness or uncertainty has altered the relationship.
We'll look beneath the argument
Most recurring conflicts are not really about the washing-up, the phone or who said what last Tuesday. Beneath them are often needs for closeness, reassurance, freedom, respect or safety.
My approach is person-centred, integrative and relational. Together, we notice the patterns at work, understand the history and feelings that feed them, and practice responding in ways that create more choice.
The aim is not perfect communication. It is a relationship in which difficult things can be spoken about with greater honesty, compassion and steadiness.
a clear and gentle start
How we begin
A brief conversation
We begin with a free 20-minute call so you can tell me what brings you to counselling and ask any questions you might have.
Your first session together
I meet with both of you. We begin to understand the current pattern and what each of you hopes might change.
A shared direction
We agree what feels most important and review our work as we go. Couples sessions last up to 60 minutes.
Looking for something more intensive?
Synergy is a separate way of working with both me and Al together. It may suit couples facing entrenched patterns, prolonged uncertainty or important decisions, with two experienced practitioners in the room.
It is distinct from the couples counselling offered on this page, and we can discuss which approach feels most suitable during an initial conversation.

Questions couples often ask
Practical answers before you begin.
Will you take sides?
No. My role is not to decide who is right or wrong, but to help you understand what is happening between you. There may be moments when one person’s experience needs more room, but I will work to ensure that both of you feel heard and that we remain curious about the pattern you have created together.
What if one of us is unsure?
It is quite common for one person to feel more ready for counselling than the other. You do not need to begin with the same level of certainty. We can make space for any doubts or concerns and use the initial conversation to consider whether couples counselling feels right for both of you, without pressure to continue.
Do we have to want to stay together?
No. You may come hoping to rebuild the relationship, or because you are uncertain about its future. Counselling is not about persuading you to stay together or to separate. It offers a thoughtful space to understand what has happened, speak more honestly and find greater clarity about the way forward.
Can we attend online?
Yes. Couples counselling can take place online, provided that you both have a private space where you can speak freely. We can discuss the most suitable arrangement beforehand so that each of you feels equally present and able to take part.
How long are sessions?
Couples sessions last up to 60 minutes. Many couples begin with weekly appointments because the regular rhythm can help the work develop, but we can discuss a frequency that feels both helpful and manageable for you.
How is Synergy different?
My couples counselling sessions are held with me as your counsellor. Synergy is a separate, more structured way of working in which both Al and I support you together. It may be helpful for couples facing deeply established patterns, prolonged uncertainty or an important decision. We can talk about which approach may be most suitable during an initial conversation.
